As the world is changing quickly, and people hear all kinds of messages and information, their spirits will swing up and down. Many people want to know how the world will come to an end. They turn to politicians and their strategies, economists and their predictions, journalists and their commentaries, or opinion leaders and their inferences. The common people will react and decide based on what they hear. Very soon, we will see that people’s hearts are shaken greatly. People’s reactions are quick, no matter it is what they think, say, decide or buy. Indeed, they succeed quickly and they fail quickly. Actually, the stock market may rise and fall quickly. Actually, all these reflect the movements in the hearts of Man, and they bring about the workings in the society. Today, it is not hard to see that even the churches are also functioning in a fast pace. The speakers want to preach quickly, and believers also want to receive the messages quickly. In the end, many superficial messages are preached. Where will a world like this head towards? It is a world that will be “deceived and destroyed”. Actually, behind all these, there is the work of the ruler of the kingdom of the air. Because of God’s revelation, we should be able to see through his work. Instead of being influenced by the opinions of people of the world and being consumed by the culture, why not we go back to the truth to build our spirits? In today’s Bible verses, we see the end times going toward five depictions – false prophets, rumours, wars, persecutions, turning away from faith. These depictions began when Lord Jesus ascended and the Holy Spirit came, but in these 2000 years, it repeatedly happens in an increasing rate. In the last days of the end times, with the emergence of internet, such patterns are even more obvious. Whether it is in the society, in the hearts of men, even in churches, such patterns are obvious. But seeing is just seeing, it does not mean victory. Being able to analyse the problem does not mean we can overcome the problem. Some people are in poor health but they still continue in binge eating. It is not because they lack health knowledge, but because they cannot help it. Similarly, whether it is the church or the society, everyone is talking about the danger of the internet, advising people not to be enthralled by mobile phones or be immersed in social media, but we still see such trends (even amongst believers) increasing over time. Although sometimes we know that everyone is packaging themselves, presenting their most beautiful and blissful side on social media, we cannot help but to feel envious and be influenced. Indeed, some enemies cannot be overcome by our wits and will. The Bible has clear answers for us, calling us to guard our hearts in such an era, continuing not just in perseverance, but also to accomplish the Great Commission entrusted to us by the Lord. Let us listen carefully to the Lord’s voice in the end times.
