人其中一个最大的困惑就是找不到自己。一旦人在此问题走不出来,他就会以他本有的才能或所成就的来寻索自己的价值。例如:上班的人以他们在公司里的地位或是赚的钱来取得自豪心;一个女人以她能找到好归属来肯定自己;做父母的因能把孩子教好来感到优越;甚至是服侍主的人也常常因自己的服侍有否果效来认定自己的价值。事实上,这是所有堕落之人的倾向。因此,这不但是在不认识神之人当中看见,就是在教会里也会常看见信徒掉入这类错误的心态。人一直在“我就是”(我是谁)和“我做到”(我的成就)两者之间徘徊,一生在此无法弄清楚,以致没有办法从一种“自我不足”感走出来。所以,当基督的福音救赎了我们的灵魂之后,同时要解决的是我们对自己堕落的认识。这类堕落的认识是不断叫我们走犯罪的路,寻索错误的肯定,追求虚幻的成就感。身份,本是人生命里本质性的东西,讲到人固有与永恒的价值。倘若我的身份是神的儿女,这本是绝对性与永恒性的。倘若我以短暂性的物质、成就、好感等来要证明这身份,我就无形中会对自己更失去本有的尊严。这就告诉我们为何有些人的成就很大,当他失败之后受打击更大;为什么有些人能做大生意,住大房子,驾大汽车,但不能承受人的侮辱与批评。这都是不真正认识自己的问题。所以,每当我们失去那至暂至轻的,我们就能试验我们是否越来越将自己安置在那极重无比的荣耀(基督里的身份与价值)。那么,我们的所作所为、侍奉、成就不重要吗?绝然不是。我们要知道:当神造了亚当夏娃,赐福给他们之后(固有的祝福),吩咐他们“要生养…遍满…管理…治理…”。所以,纵然一个信徒不应该从他所做的来找到自己的价值,但若他在当做的事上不忠心,他必然在心中带有亏欠感,因为没有忠于神托付他所做的。所以,这亏欠感是证明他的身份(圣灵已经在他心中),不应该是摧毁他对自己的形象。那倘若他做得不好呢?其实,今天很多信徒因自己在某一件事或服侍做的不理想时,他们很直接的反应就是被挫败感打击,然后越做越糟。其实,当我们以福音性的心态来面对挫败时,我们绝不是进入自哀自怜,也不是落入害怕失败,乃是激活自己的心灵寻求智慧,察验怎么做得更好,甚至是寻出难题的解决法。这不仅是与人的关系,服侍教会与牧养的事,甚至管理事务性的事都是如此。那么,能如此服侍的秘诀就在于“一心一意”。其实,对于一个借着福音与自己和好的信徒,他不寻求那虚无的肯定,他唯有在主所托付他的事上,一心一意的做,如同成为祂手中的器皿。在这当儿,他必然经历恩上加恩,智上加智的祝福。所以总而说,我所做的虽不能断定我的身份,但我的身份必然促使我做所当做的。当我在基督里与神和好,我这受肯定的生命必然毫不犹豫的会活出主给予我的任命。
One of the greatest confusions of man is unable to find his own identity. When one cannot come out of this problem, he will then find his self-worth through his own talents or achievements. For example: employee feels proud of himself because of his position in the company or the amount he earns; a woman affirms herself by her ability to find a good husband; parents feel excellent when they can teach their children well; even people who serve the Lord will often use the outcomes of their serving to affirm their self-worth. Actually, this is the inclination of a fallen man. This is not only seen in people who do not know God, it is also the wrong mentality that believers in church will fall into. Men always wander between “I am”(who am I) and “I can do” (my achievement), they cannot be clear of these the whole life, and thus they cannot come out of the sense of “self-insufficiency”. Therefore, when the Christ’ gospel redeems our souls, He wants to solve our depraved understanding of selves simultaneously. This depraved understanding constantly make us walk the sinning paths, seek the wrong affirmation, and pursue the illusory sense of achievement. Identity is inherently the nature of one’s life; it talks about the intrinsic and inherent value of men. If our identity is God’s children, this is absolute and eternal. If we use our transient possessions, accomplishment, and feel good sensation to prove this identity, we will unconsciously lose our own dignity. This explains why for certain people, the greater the achievement, the greater he fall after he fails; why some people can make big business, live in big houses and drive big cars, yet they cannot withstand the humiliation and critiques of others. This is because they do not truly know their own problems. Hence, whenever we lose the transient and momentary things, we can then test ourselves if we have increasingly rest ourselves on the weightier glory (the identity and value in Christ). Our doings, servings, and accomplishment – are they not important? Absolutely not. We ought to know: when God created Adam and Eve and blessed them (intrinsic blessings), He instructed them to “be fruitful.. fill the earth.. subdue it.. rule over..”. A believer should not find his self-worth through what he has done, but if he is unfaithful to the tasks allocated to him, he will surely feel indebted in his heart, because he is not faithful to what God has entrusted him. This sense of indebtedness proves his identity (Holy Spirit is already in him), and it is not to ruin the self-image he has of himself. What if he does not do well? Actually, when they do not do well in a task or serving, a lot of believers respond directly to it and feel defeated, and it gets worse as he continues to do. In fact, when we face the defeat with a gospel mentality, we will never slip into self-pity, or fearful of failures; instead, it will awaken our spirit to ask for wisdom, and examine how can we do better, or even to seek out the solutions to the difficulties encountered. This is not only with interpersonal relationships, serving in church, or shepherding, it also applies to how we manage other things. The secret of serving then is being “whole-hearted”. Actually, to a believer who has reconciled with self through the gospel, he will not pursue the affirmation that is imaginary, he will only be whole-hearted in doing the tasks entrusted by Lord, and become the vessels of His hand. In this, he will surely experience the blessings of grace upon grace, wisdom upon wisdom. In summary, although what we do cannot define our identity, our identity will surely spur us to do what we need to do. When we reconcile with God in Christ, our affirmed lives will surely live out the appointment that God’s given us without hesitation.
