The most spiritual message in the book of Ephesians is the final words Paul gave to the churches. Today, many believers may have much bible or theological knowledge, but they are unable to recognize and take their stand against the devils’ works in the spirit and and their practical living. Many believers are ignorant  and insensitive toward the works of Satan and the matters of the kingdom of darkness. Often when we touch on the topic of work of Satan, most believers understand it as the original nature of man to sin. Also, some recognize the works of Satan only when they encounter weird phenomenon of “man being possessed by the evil spirit or practices of heresy”. In all these, man have always been focussing on the matters of the flesh or external things, which lead to various humanistic ways or mystical rituals to solve all the problems they face; but actually all these have not hit the most vital point of the enemy. In fact, the truth of God is to expose Satan’s work. Satan opposed God right from the beginning, and he is a devil with personality (personality = has position, character, and power to influence). Because he was created to be the head of angels, therefore he has great authority and an instinct of a spiritual body. His physicality is not seen by the naked eyes, yet he sees through each and every action of man,  and then slander and accuse man before God. He deceives and insinuates man according to his will, and stir the sinful nature in Christian causing them fall into sins and chained by sins. Angels following him have the same purpose and are doing the same work as him. But Christ’s finished work on the cross had completely crushed his forces (Christ has first overcome him and liberate born again people from the law of sin and death), after that, the truth of God exposes his devil schemes one by one, and lay out clearly the absolute ways to guard against and resist him. In the earlier chapters of book of Ephesians, it has mentioned much on “do not give the devil a foothold or do not grieve the Holy Spirit”, and also talks about “understand what the Lord’s will is and be filled with the Spirit”. However, these truths are not mere theory, nor victory in Christ a slogan. Indeed, we have to be able to utilize these mysteries in our spirit practically, detect the multiple schemes coming from the devil, rely on the readily available conviction and strength from God to think, decide and act. Today, in the scripture, Paul had meticulously illustrated the complete method of standing against the devil – and that is to put on the full armor of God. This is something we cannot neglect, especially we believers are fighting spiritual battles. If we can truly know faith living is indeed a spiritual battle, we will then understand the essence in this scripture; otherwise, we will easily treat it as teaching that is abstract.
