We are always wondering how we can please God and receive His rewards. The secret is simple. It is not difficult to please God, we just need to be humble. We do not need great talent, accomplishments or even faith. Humility is the first step to receiving all of God’s grace. It is even in the moment when we repent of our sins and accept Jesus as our personal savior, became born-again and saved, that requires humility as well. If not, we will not hand our sovereignty over to God, nor admit that we need God. To believe in God, that requires humility. When we come before God, we must start from humility; without humility, we will not receive mercy and answers from God. The opposite of humility is “pride”. To understand why being humble is pleasing to God, we must know why God detests pride. Actually, “pride” is the worst of sins. All sins cause people to depart from God, but pride calls people to be higher than God, stronger than God. Therefore, pride makes a person an enemy of God. <James 4:6-7> That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”  Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. The devil is the biggest symbol of “pride”, he wants to be God’s equal and he is God’s most hated enemy. But if we want to receive grace, humility is not “optional” but “required”.
